The Cure is an English rock icon known for popularizing gothic rock. The band rose to prominence in the ‘80s with their new wave/alternative music paired with dark lyrics and persona. The band is also responsible for jumpstarting the subculture movement. The Cure has released 13 highly-acclaimed studio albums over the course of their four-decade career and sold over 30 million copies worldwide. They have also earned two platinum certifications and a double platinum album.

In 1979, The Cure released their debut effort, Three Imaginary Boys. The record immediately made a breakthrough in their home country, peaking at a moderate number 44 in the U.K. One year later, the album was released as a compilation effort titled Boys Don’t Cry in the U.S., which spawned the most iconic gold-certified single, “Boys Don’t Cry.”

The Cure moved on to release numerous chart-performing studio albums after their phenomenal debut. In 1989, they dropped their most successful album to date. Disintegration, which sold over four million copies worldwide, entered the charts in nine countries, including the U.S. and the U.K. Three years later, the follow-up album Wish topped the U.S. and U.K. charts and entered the charts in 17 countries, making it their most successful record in terms of chart performance. Moreover, the album also earned a Grammy nod for Best Alternative Music Album.

Over the course of their career, The Cure has earned numerous accolades, including two Brit Awards, two Ivor Novello Awards, an MTV Video Music Award, and two NME Awards. In 2019, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
