ABOUT RÜFÜS DU SOL

Based in Sydney, Australia, alternative dance music group Rüfüs Du Sol in November 2010. The band consists of members Tyrone Lindqvist, Jon George, and James Hunt and originally went under the name Rüfüs. The group had to change its name to Rüfüs Du Sol in America because of the Chaka Khan-led funk band Rufus but continued to perform under Rüfüs internationally until 2018.

CAREER

2011-2012: Beginnings

The band released its debut EP Rüfüs on January 1, 2011. Its debut single, "We Left", was released six months later on July 25. The following year, the single’s video was nominated for Best Music Video at the 2012 Vimeo Awards. Two tracks from the EP, "Paris Collides" and "We Left" reached number eight and number 13, respectively, on the Hype Machine charts simultaneously.

In April 2012, Rüfüs released their second EP, Rüfüs (Blue). It is their first record to enter the ARIA charts. To support the EP, the band embarked on the This Summer Tour throughout April and May 2012 and the Blue Tour that August. The track "Talk to Me" features on the Kitsuné Summer mix compilation. The double A-sided single "This Summer"/"Selena" was released on July 16, 2012, with "This Summer" receiving high rotation on Australian national radio station Triple J.

2013-2014: Atlas

The band’s debut studio album, Atlas, was released on August 9, 2013. The album debuted at number 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart and went on to receive a nomination for Australian Album of the Year at the 2013 J Awards. The EP was certified platinum in Australia. It was preceded by "Take Me" as the lead single on 8 March 2013 and "Desert Night" as the second single on 21 June 2013. They were certified platinum and gold, respectively. "Take Me" was nominated for Best Independent Dance/Electronica or Club Single at the 2013 Australian Independent Record Labels Association Awards. "Tonight" and "Sundream" were also released as singles. At the 2014 Australian Independent Record Labels Association Awards, "Sundream" was nominated for Best Independent Dance/Electronica or Club Single and at the ARIA Music Awards of 2014, the song was nominated for Best Dance Release, while the band was nominated for Best Group. "Sundream" has also been certified gold in Australia.

2015-2017: Bloom

Bloom, the band’s second studio album, was released on January 22, 2016. It debuted at number one on the ARIA Albums Chart and has been certified platinum in Australia. The album was preceded by five singles. "You Were Right" was released as the lead single on June 26, 2015, peaking at number 22 on the ARIA Charts, certified double-platinum. "Like an Animal, "Innerbloom", "Say a Prayer for Me", and "Be with You" were also released as singles. At the 2017 Electronic Music Awards, the Sasha remix of "Innerbloom" won Record of the Year.

2018-2020: Solace and Solace Remixed

"No Place" was released on May 25, 2018, as the lead single from Rüfüs Du Sol’s third studio album.  "Underwater" and "Lost in My Mind" were also released as singles that year before the album itself, Solace, was released on October 19, 2018. Solace reached number two on the Australian Albums Chart and number six on the US Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart. At the J Awards of 2018, the album was nominated for Australian Album of the Year. It earned the band nominations for three awards at the 2019 ARIA Awards; Album of the Year, Best Dance Release, and Best Group winning the award for Best Dance Release. At the previous ARIA Awards in 2018, the band had also been nominated for Best Group, and "No Place" was nominated for Best Dance Release. The band received two nominations at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards in 2020 - "Underwater" was nominated for Best Dance Recording and Solace was nominated for Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album.

A remix album, Solace Remixed, was released in September 2019.

2021-present: Surrender

The band released "Alive", their first song in three years, on July 13, 2021. "Next to Me" followed in August and "On My Knees" in September. Surrender, the band’s fourth studio album, was released on October 22, 2021. It hit the top spot on both the Australian Albums Chart and the US Billboard Heatseekers Albums Chart. It also reached number two on the Billboard Top Dance/Electronic Albums Chart. The album was nominated for Australian Album of the Year at the 2021 J Awards. At the 2021 ARIA Music Awards, "Alive" won Best Dance Release and Rüfüs Du Sol won Best Group.
