From squatting homeless in an abandoned house throwing parties to promote their music to dominating the Billboard charts, Rae Sremmurd have been phenomenally successful, and don’t they know it! Gaining local attention and that of a big record label producer, the duo, composed of brothers Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi, released their first album, “Sremmlife,” in 2015, to swift Platinum certification from the RIAA. In 2016, the pair started their own record label, and released their sophomore album, “Sremmlife 2”.
The single “Black Beatles” featuring Gucci Mane, from the same album, hit number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in part thanks to the viral exposure from its association with the Mannequin Challenge trend. It also charted high in countries such as Australia, the UK, Canada and New Zealand. Described as "a vital, quintessentially youthful song, which is extremely welcome in this oncoming era of social conservatism,” by Billboard, the song marked a high point in the brother’s career that they’ve shown no sign of descending from since!!
