Dave Matthews Band, winner of one Grammy award, was formed in Charlottesville, VA in 1991. The members adopted genres from rock, folk and country to alternative rock, world music and bluegrass. The variety of their music and their devotion to it propelled the band directly to the first place in the Billboard 200 with the album Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King, earning the band their fifth consecutive number-one debut.
