Amyl and The Sniffers, along with their Cartoon Darkness album, come to RBC Amphitheatre on Thursday, June 4th. This independent band from down under has made a lot of noise in their home country thanks to their latest releases and even their work with Fred Again on a 2025 single. Their music is living proof that punk rock's not dead, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. What truly has allowed them to take their act over the top are these live shows with Amyl's provocative looks and incredible moves, making her one of the most recognizable leading ladies in the genre.
This band is like seeing your favorite pub rock act make it big. Yet, they keep this knack for staying close to the fans and making these shows the rock nights of old, where performers and the audience merge constantly. This group is a sight to behold live, even if "you're a star" and "Jerkin'" aren't staples on your regular playlists. You're certainly going to want to add them leading up to June 4th, but there's an air of old school rock band with a glamorous leading lady that you're not going to find headlining at this venue or any other for that matter, any time soon. Although Amyl and The Sniffers are relatively new on the block by some standards, they bring traditional rock values, and that just oozes in these upbeat live shows that are going to be filled with memorable moments.
Again, tracks like "You Should Not Be Doing That, "Hertz," and even "Security" help the cause. However, if you're an old-time rock fan, you're going to be able to relate to this! These days, it seems like big-time performers have a set show, and at some stops, they're just going through the motions, not really engaging a lot with the crowd for the night. Crowd control is certainly a speciality behind Amyl and The Sniffers. Particularly Amyl in her role as the leading lady. She's checking the temperature in the room and making sure that the audience is really engaged. If that's not the case, she's willing to go the extra mile, let's say. We'll leave the interpretation of that open so you can picture what going the extra mile means.
Usually, you'd be okay at the back of the theater just enjoying the show. It's not that you won't "enjoy" a show with Amyl and the Snifers from the back of the venue, but you're missing out on a bit on a major part of the performance, which is Amyl's direct interaction with the crowd. If there was ever a band where it would make sense to look for spots near the front of the venue, it might be this one.
